April 2022
The Carmel Farmers Markets (CFM) Volunteer Committee is pleased to announce the opening day of the Carmel Farmers Summer Market to be held at Carter Green in Carmel, Indiana on Saturday, May 7, 2022. The summer market will be open to all Saturdays from May September 7 to 24, 2022, 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. With over 70 vendors, many of whom are long-time vendors in the market, the CFM committee welcomes a few new faces and products to the lineup this year as well as new “mini sponsorship” opportunities for local restaurants.
Calling all local chefs!
CFM President Ron Carter has reached out to restaurants in the community with a new mini referral program designed to increase brand awareness not only for the market and restaurants, but also for market vendors and their fresh products.
“We are instituting a new mini sponsorship for local restaurants,” Carter said. “We know we have local restaurant chefs coming into the market, so we’re going to encourage those chefs to be more visible in the market, making their restaurants more visible and helping their restaurants be seen as, and in fact, part of the local food chain and letting consumers know that our market provides the quality products that local gourmet chefs use.
For participating restaurants, Carter shared that they will have a designated market cart with their name, logo, etc., that chefs can carry while shopping at the market. Time permitting, chefs will be invited to be interviewed at the market via the PA system and asked what they have purchased and how they will incorporate the ingredients into their dishes.
Carter added, “We believe the mini-sponsorships will enhance our brand, the vendor brands and certainly the restaurant brands.”
Look for “Featured Chefs” throughout the market season!
From seed to full bloom
CFM Vice President Deborah Schmitz explained how the marketplace serves as an incubator for small sellers and start-ups. Many vendors have “overshot” the market once they have gone domestic or moved up the supply chain and secured major fulfillment contracts.
“An example is James Long with ‘LIVE Project’,” Schmitz said. “James produces a range of health drinks and was approached by Target for distribution. Another example is the Baird family who own/operate Groomsville Popcorn. I still remember Jacob, a mild-mannered gentleman, who contacted us to sell his popcorn at our market. Last winter he had four stalls at the Carmel Christkindlmarkt! They sold their pizza, their chocolate, their German candies, their popcorn and their nuts. They recently opened a restaurant/storefront in Tipton, Indiana, and Jacob’s donuts are to die for!
Carter and Schmitz are eager to see how one of their newest suppliers, American Dream Nut Butters, fares in the market this year. American Dream Nut Butters creates and sells an assortment of low carb, high protein and high sugar nut butters. It is a family business employing approximately 40 family members!

Be sure to join us on opening day for all the traditional fanfare, including a flyover provided by Indy Biplanes, and remember… “Get Fresh On Saturday!”
