Basque cheesecake with Asian accents
Melbourne-born Instagram bakery Sugar Nomad has come to Adelaide. Founder and baker, pastry chef by training Ivy Yap, moved earlier this year, bringing with her her pan-Asian twists on the Basque cheesecake brulee. A benefit dinner for Afghanistan
The Ayubi family from Parwana celebrates Nawruz, or Nowruz – the first day of Afghanistan’s new year – with a fundraising dinner on Monday, March 21. The unique event, held at Parwana Afghan Kitchen, will feature live music, poetry and a talk on the meaning of the day, led by co-owner Durkhanai Ayubi. “The start of a new year brings with it hope for new possibilities and a spirit of togetherness and optimism,” she says. “We recognize that at this time nothing in our world is more important than the spirit of Nawruz when we see the senseless conflicts across the world, the loss of sacred life and the plight of refugees.” Tickets are $100 per person (wine is BYO at no extra cost) and all proceeds will go to charities Mahboba’s Promise and Aseel, which help vulnerable people in the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. Local winemaker Sarah Feehan (Parley, Les and Sez) is helping flood relief efforts in New South Wales the best way she knows how – through good booze.
