After a decade off the store shelves, existing only in the minds and taste buds of their fans, candy staples of the late 1990s and early 2000s are making a comeback in their two. most popular flavors.
Beginning in mid-October, New Jerseyers can see Strawberries & Creme and Orange & Creme varieties at Big Lots stores or Cracker Barrel restaurants.
A family business with Jersey roots plays a central role: Iconic candies was recruited by the original manufacturer of Creme Savers, Mars Wrigley, to relaunch the brand.
“We love to reveal memories of childhood and people’s past, and make people really happy with candy,” said Kim Wiesen, CFO of Iconic Candy.
Wiesen is from Marlboro and said she and her husband are in the process of relocating to Garden State.
Iconic Candy has been working on the return of Creme Savers for two years, a timeline that Wiesen sadly dubbed due to logistics and supply issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
But the company now sees social media the hype is starting to build and is finally ready to unleash that sweet bit of nostalgia – with other confections following close behind.
“We also have a few other brands that we own that we have brought back to the market, and we have a whole portfolio of brands that we are working on at the same time,” said Wiesen. “There are things that we are working on, it’s very exciting, and we hope to release some things in 2022 and even in 2023.”
Those who remember the original Creme Savers run may recall that there was once a wide range of flavors available, from dessert to tropical.
Some of them might end up coming back too.
“We would like to bring back more flavors, we would like to do the sugar free range which was very, very popular at the time, so there are definitely plans for product extensions, it will all depend on how the product does it.” , said Wiesen.
