TikTok In ND – Dangerous OR old fashioned fun?

When will this social media platform go too far?

Personally, I think it has a lot of times. Hey listen, I’m not a stick in the mud, and everyone has their own thing when it comes to entertainment, but it seems to me that TikTok continues to press the pedal to stir up controversy. Are you one of the few who haven’t heard of or never seen a TikTok video? You are in the minority.

What is TikTok used for?

I will describe it as best I can. It started out as a perfect way for ordinary, normal people to showcase their hobbies, short videos for just entertainment. The problem, however, seemed to be that TikTok didn’t really seem to have any rules that were actually enforced, meaning they were allowing content that would eventually explode nationwide. Here in North Dakota, it’s no different. Young people can sometimes easily be swayed by what they see, and when those silly “I dare you” videos stretch into the realm of dangerous. So far nothing has been reported here in Bismarck or Mandan, but take a second and listen to the absurd.

This last challenge can be life-threatening in THE most obvious way.

Imagine meeting teenagers with real-looking BB guns. According to nypost.com “The #OrbeezChallenge has teens using a gel ball gun or airsoft gun to shoot Obreez circular water gel beads – at friends or civilians” Here’s a short video about it:

Imagine the worst possible scenario

A Bismarck or Mandan police officer sees this activity, at night, with people running around holding a realistic looking gun, shooting at innocent bystanders. You see what I mean ? Could TikTok be held responsible for a death in North Dakota caused by their silly “Challenge” videos?
