Tulare County Crop Report for the week ending November 12



Small grains and other major crops: Lentils are exported to Martinique, Guadeloupe and French Guiana. Dry beans are exported to Guadeloupe, French Polynesia and Martinique as well as to national retailers. The cotton harvest will be delayed until things dry out. Corn and sorghum silage harvest is nearing completion across the county. Harvested silage corn fields are fertilized, plowed and planted with winter cereals. Manure is spread between crop rotations. Alfalfa continues to be irrigated, cut, dried and baled. Sudan grass is cut, dried and baled. Fields are leveled and prepared for winter grain crops. Bagged horse feed is exported to Japan. Much-needed rains have slowed down some field work as the fields remain wet.

Deciduous tree fruits, nuts and grapes: Stone fruit season is over, trees are pruned for dormancy. The grapes are exported to Mexico, Japan, Korea, El Salvador, Chile and Canada. Table grapes are still packed and repackaged for export. Varieties like Autumn Royal, Autumn Crisp, Green Envy, Allison and Adora are shipped to Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, China, Panama, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Philippines, Indonesia, Honduras and in Malaysia. Kiwis are exported to the Dominican Republic. The persimmons are still in full harvest and are being picked and packaged for domestic markets and exported to the Dominican Republic, Panama, Canada and Mexico. Fuyu persimmons are harvested and packaged for regional markets. Pomegranates are harvested and exported to Japan, Mexico, Korea and Australia. Pistachios are exported to Israel, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, India, United Kingdom, Spain, Turkey, Vietnam, China, Taiwan, Australia, India, Luxembourg, Italy, Mexico, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Switzerland. Almond packing is in full swing with exports to Japan, Korea, China, Hong Kong, Israel, Colombia, United Arab Emirates, India and Taiwan. The walnut harvest is coming to an end. The nuts are exported to Turkey, Israel, Italy, UK, France, Norway, Spain, Vietnam and China. Old walnut and almond orchards are being removed in various parts of the county. Pecans are exported to the Middle East, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Italy and Singapore.
