What’s Cooking: Community Meals This Week


• 14th annual chilli market, 5-7 p.m. Thursday, downtown Buchanan, trailhead Lehman’s Farmhouse, 204 Red Bud Trail. Progressive fashion. Vote for the favorite pepper and the most named pepper. Cost: $2 for each participant/spoon.

• Fried fish, Friday 5-7 p.m., St. John’s United Church of Christ, 601 Sycamore Street, Niles. Cost: adults, $12; children (12 and under), $6. On site or to take away. Call 269-683-4420 for advance orders and tickets.

• Fried fish, 4:30-7 p.m. Friday, MR Falcons, 3212 Keller St., South Bend (corner of Bendix and Keller Streets). All you can eat including a salad bar. Cost: adults, $12; children (6 to 12 years old), $6. Also available: chicken and shrimp and pierogi dinners. On site or to take away.

• Fried fish, Friday 5-7 p.m., Knights of Columbus, 61533 S. Ironwood Road, South Bend, 574-291-2740. All you can eat. Cost: adults, $12; children (5 to 13 years old), $5; 4 years and under, free. Chicken nugget and shrimp dinners available. Dining room seating and take-out available.

• Fried Fish, Chicken or Shrimps, 4:30-7 p.m. Friday, Ryan A. Balmer American Legion Post 161, 133 E. Mishawaka Ave., Mishawaka, 574-255-8319. Take away only. Call ahead Thursday and Friday. Cost: $8 to $14.

• Lenten fry, 4:30-7 p.m. Friday, Crumstown Conservation Club, 59440 Crumstown Highway, North Liberty. Cost: $10. Drive-thru only.

• Hand-breaded baskets, 5:30-7 p.m. Friday, ZB Falcons, 323 S. Sheridan St., South Bend, 574-288-3335. Pork tenderloin, chicken sandwich or chicken strips. Cost: $7; substitute onion rings for an additional $1. Possibility to dine in and take away. Join the indoor cornhole tournament at 8 p.m., $10 per person.
